Poker Profiles: Scotty Nguyen
Scotty Nguyen's cool moves, cool lines, and ultra cool attitude made him one of the most popular players around. He is over 40 but is not slowing down anytime soon. Scotty is as active as he was when he was younger. His most successful money finishes credits for more than 100 final table appearances he made from 2000 to 2004. His wealth of bracelets credits for his active participation in every tournament there is.
Born Thuan Scotty on October 28, 1962, the man behind 'The Prince of Poker' moniker is originally a Vietnamese. His native town is Nha Trang. Fortunately for the American community, Scotty moved to the United States in 1976 and called it a home since then. Shortly after he moved, he discovered the glitz of gambling, managing to enter back-room Poker games in Orange County, California. Scotty was attending more Poker games than high school lessons at that time and it was not at all surprising when the school kicked him out. Although not a very good experience at all, being expelled from school gave him all the time he would need to muster enough Poker skills which he could bring out at high stake tournaments.
Scotty was Southern California' pride but his ride to fame is not one that is easy. During the early years that he was associated with Poker, he was a dealer at a local casino. He used the job to live and to learn the ins and outs of the game. Scotty's observations at the Poker table fetched him important lessons that he used afterwards to be one of the winning-est players of his generation.
It was Scotty's Poker winnings that supported his family. It was his Poker career that put his loved ones in a more comfortable place. 1998 was a big year in Scotty's career because it was when he first won the challenge of the World Series of Poker' Main Event against equally talented Kevin McBride. But 1998 was one of saddest as well. The day after Scotty won the WSOP, a tragedy hit his family. His brother settled in Vietnam was hit by a car and killed.
Nevertheless, Scotty moved on to greater heights of Poker. He consistently entered high stake tournaments and cashed in a fortune every time. His total live winnings as of the moment already exceeded the $7 million mark. But the cool cat is not slowing down anytime soon. Poker fans will continue to see his relaxed but notorious air at the Poker table as well as hear his ever-famous 'baby' lines.
